Nono: Betis deserve to be up there

Real Betis midfielder Nono says his team currently occupies a European spot in the table because that is where they deserve to be.

Nono has been out with a pelvic injury for the past two weeks, but is now back in full training and hoping for a place in Pepe Mel’s team for the weekend clash at home to Valencia.

“I’ve been having some problems and I preferred to rest for two weeks because playing at 70 per cent in La Primera is no good to anyone,” he told the club’s official radio station.

“It’s been hard but I need to look after myself because if I don’t it would be even more difficult.”

Asked if it was more important to get positive results this season than playing attractive football, Nono insisted it needs to be a mixture of both.

“The fans want to see good football but we also need to get good results because that’s what matters.

“We feel we still have room for improvement and we hope to get those results by the team playing well.

“However, we must take it step by step, although if we are up near the top then that is where we deserve to be. We have the team to stay up there and it would be a dream to finish in the European places.

“At the moment I’ve played five games and what I want to do is consolidate my place in the side.

“I hope to stay here for many years and I know I can do better, but for that I’ll need to work really hard,” he concluded.
