Simeone eyes continuous improvement

Diego Simeone has confirmed that Radamel Falcao returns this weekend and of Atletico Madrid’s intention to continue improving themselves.

Colombian forward Falcao is back for a second day of full training today after a recent thigh injury and his Coach has confirmed his likely involvement on Sunday for the match against third placed Malaga.

“Falcao is fine. Initially he is with us today to work alongside the rest of the group, so we’ll probably start to see then and over the course of the game how he feels,” El Cholo told reporters today.

“He will certainly start the game with Malaga.”

Simeone then turned his attention to the general atmosphere at the club, who are still unbeaten and go into this weekend second in the League.

“The group is well, the club is good, the fans are supporting us as they always have and these are all strong signals that we need to support with facts.

“All these things are true. The club, the group and the public all want us to continue improving. And in that way, we are.

“We are compact, aggressive, intense… These are the marks of the history of Atletico Madrid and gradually we are incorporating these traits into the team, making them better.

“That is what we have today, tomorrow is another match and from then we will appreciate what we have to do for that game.”

Tomorrow is the visit of Malaga, who are also in strong form at the start of the season and also unbeaten.

“The best thing is to think about how we will play the game… thinking about Isco, Joaquin and if Iturra plays instead of Monreal… It is what drives us. Dwelling on a situation that we cannot effect now makes little sense to talk about.

“Malaga are demonstrating in Europe and with consistency in the League a growth in experience since the arrival of [Manuel] Pellegrini, and the team are like him.

“Saviola’s arrival has given them a lot of dynamism to their attacks, even more so than with Rondon, and he has made them very dangerous.

“We have a tough game ahead of ourselves, it will be difficult and dangerous. Tomorrow could provide a great game at the Calderon.”

The game follows directly on from the Clasico, a game that Simeone did not want to talk about.

“I am with Atletico Madrid. We are playing tomorrow. We are thinking about us, exclusively. There is no room for anything else.”
