Michel refuses referee talk

Sevilla boss Michel refused to talk about referee Mateus Lahoz following Gary Medel’s sending off in the 3-2 home defeat to Barcelona.

The Chilean was dismissed on 72 minutes for an apparent head butt on Cesc Fabregas but Michel preferred to talk about the players from both sides at his post-match Press conference.

“I don’t want to talk about the referee because the players are the central characters,” he said.

“The 25 that were on the pitch were exceptional but it was a bitter defeat for us because I thought my players did not deserve to leave without any reward.

“They were very impressive against an impressive team and I hate to lose so late in the game.”

Michel also received his marching orders for allegedly complaining about an apparent handball from Thiago Alcantara which led to Barca’s second goal, although he denied any wrongdoing.

“The only thing I said to the referee was that it was handball and I don’t think I insulted him, but I don’t want to give my opinion on him because I thought my players were brilliant, even with 10 men,” he added.
