Arsenal join push for Llorente

According to a report in Metro, Arsenal are the latest club to join the race to land Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente.

The Spanish international is out of contract next summer and has refused the offer of a new one at San Mames, something that has alerted a host of Europe’s top clubs with the Gunners the latest to join the list.

Llorente, currently weighing up his options, is unsure of his Bilbao future, but will wait until January before making a decision on his final destination, although the Basques appear resigned to losing him and will be looking to cash in on their prize asset.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger sees the 27-year-old as a replacement for Robin van Persie, who left to join Manchester United in the summer, but he will face stiff competition from fellow Premier League clubs Manchester City and Chelsea as well as Juventus.

City boss Roberto Mancini is understood to have been keen on Llorente for some time while Chelsea are looking at him as an alternative to the misfiring Fernando Torres if he continues to disappoint at Stamford Bridge.
