Falcao can match Messi and Ronaldo

Radamel Falcao is eager to start the season with Atletico Madrid, believing that like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, he can score 50 goals in a year.

Both the Barcelona and Real Madrid strikers surpassed the half-century of strikes for their respective clubs in all competitions during 2011-12.

Falcao, who netted 36 in his debut season in Spain last term, believes that it is a target he can reach this season for Atleti.

“It is in me to always improve on what I have done the previous year and to set new goals,” he told reporters this week.

“Messi and Ronaldo’s goal tallies are not unattainable for me. What I want most is to produce a good season for the fans.

“I’m facing the season ahead with high hopes. Now the team is more settled and we know each other better.

“And in my case I’m also more accustomed to the League. Both personally and collectively we are very excited to improve on what was done last year.

“If we win at Levante [this weekend] then we can face the rest of the season in the same way, looking to win every game and in the end we will finish in the table where we deserve to be.”
