La Roja to play Saudis and Puerto Rico

The board of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has announced friendlies against Puerto Rico and Saudi Arabia.

At a meeting in Madrid the RFEF confirmed that the first of these is scheduled for August 15 when Spain will play in Puerto Rico, while the game against Saudi Arabia is pencilled in for September 15 in Pontevedra.

In addition, it was also confirmed that the first qualifying game for the 2014 World Cup against France will take place at Atletico Madrid’s Vicente Calderon home on October 16.

A statement on the RFEF’s official website said that during the meeting, which began with members posing for photographs with the World Cup and European Championship Trophy, a minute’s silence was observed for the death in recent months of ´all people linked to football`.

Coach Manolo Preciado and footballer Miki Roque received special messages of remembrance approved by the organisation, with ´condolences` expressed over the loss of both this summer.

The national team was then congratulated on its performances in Poland and Ukraine, along with the boards of Real Madrid Castilla, Ponferradina, Mirandes and Lugo on their promotion to La Segunda, with special mention given to the Spanish beach soccer team that has qualified for the 2013 World Cup.
