Michel leaning on Reyes, Medel

Sevilla boss Michel says he is going to give more responsibility to midfielders Jose Antonio Reyes and Gary Medel next season.

The former Real Madrid player is banking on a new attitude from his players and is aware European qualification is a minimum requirement.

“Looking at last year’s table it would obviously have been better if we had qualified [for Europe], but we have asked Reyes and Medel to be much more committed next term and not to hide behind the rest of the players,” he told a Press conference.

“We need them and it is their responsibility, so they know what they have to do.

“In general you will see a different scenario to that of last season and the squad now understand our methods, above all the discipline, so I’m really excited.”

Michel insists he is not too worried at the way his batch of players is shaping up with less than a month to go to the new campaign, and is confident he will have the right men in place for the assault on La Liga.

“There will be some comings and goings necessary to leave us with 22 players, two for every position, but there is plenty of time.

“At the moment we are at 40 or 50 per cent of our maximum and so far we have given more importance to the physical aspect of things, but this week we will start to work on tactics and strategy and we will be ready for the first game against Getafe.”
