La Liga Round Up: Real Betis cruise past Osasuna as Rayo slip against Sevilla

Sunday’s La Liga action saw a double Andalucia win as Sevilla edged out three points at Rayo Vallecano and Real Betis disposed of Osasuna.

Los Verdiblancos have lost just once in all competitions at the start of 2025/26 and they rallied after a midweek UEFA Europa League draw with Nottingham Forest.

Alongside the wins for the above, Elche powered on, as the hosts remain unbeaten after a home win over Celta Vigo.

Let’s check out how the action unfolded…

Rayo Vallecano 0-1 Sevilla

Two sides with contrasting form faced off in Vallecas with Rayo without a win in four La Liga games ahead of hosting a Sevilla side who had lost just one in four.

Neither side created much in the first hour and the contest was effectively decided in the final five minutes.

Akor Adams came off the bench to crisply prod home his first-ever goal for Sevilla before Rayo striker Sergio Camello was sent off.

Elche 2-1 Celta Vigo

Elche have firmly been the surprise package of the season so far with seven games unbeaten since their return to the big time.

They end the weekend in fourth place with just a six point gap to leaders and defending champions Barcelona.

Andre Silva and Borja Iglesias continued their respective red hot form in front of goal with an early strike each.

There was a few nervous moments for the home side after the break, as Rafa Mir saw his penalty saved, before John Donald clinched the win with a bundled finish.

Real Betis 2-0 Celta Vigo

There was much less drama in Sunday’s final game as Real Betis picked up a crucial win after European duty.

Abde Ezzazouli got the ball rolling on 19 minutes, after a mix up in the Osasuna defence, and Cucho Hernandez wrapped the result up before the break.

  1. (Just wanted to mention the Nottingham Forrest game here, since comments were closed on that article)
I thought the German referee did a masterful job calling the game. He did not penalize any of the ticky-tack nonsense nor any of the dives. He allowed the players to roll around on the ground, faking severe injury when there was none. I think both sides learned early on that faking fouls and such was not going to be called. It allowed the game to flow. Betis seemed out of shape with alot of walking and standing around when they had possession. That lack of cohesive team effort is not going to work. Only in the last 10 minutes did they pick up the pace and pressure and were rewarded with an excellent equalizer by Antony. The lack of skillful players at every position is apparent.
