Spain are on the hunt for another trophy in 2025 as Luis de la Fuente aims to defend his UEFA Nations League title.
De la Fuente eased to the 2023 crown, inside a superb first six months in charge of La Roja, as a building block to future success, as his reputation grows via a contract extension.
That was followed up by glory at UEFA Euro 2024, in Spain’s first major title since 2012, and they are strongly backed for more glory this summer.

The first hurdle for Spain will be a quarter final against the Netherlands in March and at Football Espana we look at a potential route to victory based on previous meetings with Europe’s elite nations.
Quarterfinals
In both of Spain’s previous Nations League appearances, they have made it to the final at least, including a 2021 loss to France.
Spain have not faced the Dutch in competitive action since the 2010 FIFA World Cup and they failed to win two friendly games against them in 2015 and 2020.
However, they go into this game on the back of a 16-game unbeaten run, and the Dutch have been mixed and controversial since the return of Ronald Koeman.

Just two wins in the league phase booked their spot in the last eight after failing to win either of their games against Germany.
Semifinals
If Spain get past Koeman’s charges, they will face either France or Croatia in the last four, with the favourites set as Les Bleus.
Kylian Mbappe’s late goal saw France beat Spain in the 2021 final, but Spain got revenge last summer, in the semi finals of Euro 2024.
Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo fired Spain to the final where De la Fuente’s team eventually edged out England.
Spain will fancy their chances against their old rivals with Didier Deschamps confirming his plan to step down after the World Cup in 2026.
Final
The permutations for the final are far wider with Germany, Portugal, Denmark and Italy in the opposite side of the draw to Spain.
Germany are backed to be the most likely to make it through, with the chance of a final being staged in Munich, and they will relish another shot at De la Fuente.
However, Euro 2024 provides a key clue for Spain, as they secured a quarter final win over the host nation last summer.
