Real Madrid are preparing to take on Liverpool in their fifth league phase fixture in this season’s Champions League, and they will do so with Federico Valverde in their side. However, had things been different, they could have been facing the Uruguayan midfielder at Anfield instead.
During the 2023 summer transfer window, Liverpool were on the lookout for high-quality midfield signings. They ended up acquiring the services of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister, and according to Relevo, they were also very interested in Valverde.
Liverpool officials made contact with Valverde’s representatives, and they hoped that the overbooking in Real Madrid’s midfield would tempt him. However, this proved not to be the case, as the 26-year-old turned down the advances that had been made.
Valverde has gone to another level this season, and he has certainly been one of the standout performers for Real Madrid. He will hope to have a big say at Anfield on Wednesday night.
