As Real Madrid assess their options in the January transfer market, having seen Eder Militao go down with a second anterior cruciate ligament injury, ruling him out for the rest of the season. One of the options could potentially be his replacement in the Brazil national team.

According to Sport, Nottingham Forest defender Murillo is being tracked by both Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Blaugrana have been receiving updates on the 22-year-old since he was at Corinthians, from where he moved to Forest for €12m. As Barcelona moved for Jonathan Tah in late August, their lack of salary limit impeded any movement, but they also suggested a loan move for Murillo.

The Blaugrana continue to monitor his progress. He is liked due to his strength, bravery, and ability on the ball and to rectify mistakes. He can also play at left-back, and is left-footed. Los Blancos are also looking at Murillo, and feel he is one the defenders that most meets their needs currently. Juventus and Chelsea have already enquired about him too.

Murillo has certainly impressed in the Premier League since arriving 18 months ago, not least due to his long-range strikes last season. Now, operating in Nuno Espirito Santo’s defence, the Brazilian continues to stand out in one of the surprise packages of the season. What the report does not mention is the potential cost of Murillo, which is likely very high.
