Barcelona look as if they have run out of salary limit with which to recruit for the first team, but have looked to strengthen through their Barca Atletic side. US under-17 international Pedro Soma has joined for the coming season.
Soma, 18, has been playing for Cornella in the fourth tier of Spanish football as a holding midifelder for Barcelona’s city rivals. He joins on a one-year deal with an option for the Blaugrana to acquire his rights at the end of the season. Soma is described by Sport as having a good touch and plenty of potential.

Reportedly he has been on Barcelona’s radar for much of the past year, and Barcelona have finally decided to make a move. The injury to 17-year-old Marc Bernal is likely what inspired the move with just over 24 hours left in the transfer window. Soma is not expected to feature in the first team, but will provide extra cover for Albert Sanchez at Barca Atletic. That will allow Hansi Flick to call up Pau Prim from Barca Atletic – he looks like the next man up from Bernal.
