Pre-season revelations cause Barcelona to cool interest in two transfer targets

Over the course of the summer so far, the topic of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo’s possible returns to Barcelona have been speculated upon. The Portuguese pair are giving priority to the Catalans, despite strong interest from elsewhere.

However, neither player is a priority for Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, and this could ensure that they are not re-signed during the final weeks of the summer transfer window. Diario AS say that Flick would prefer to use the players he already has in the positions that Felix and Cancelo would play.

Hector Fort, Alex Valle and Gerard Martin have all impressed during pre-season, and if they are kept in the first team, there is little need for Cancelo. Pau Victor’s emergence also makes it more difficult for Joao Felix to seal a return to Barcelona.

In truth, it makes little sense for Barcelona to re-sign Felix and Cancelo, especially considering that Atletico Madrid and Manchester City respectively are demanding mandatory buy options be included in any loan agreement. This does not suit at all, and their wages would also be a problem.
