Girona have lost several important players this summer. They’ve sold Aleix Garcia and Artem Dovbyk to Bayer Leverkusen and Roma respectively, while also being forced to part ways with loanees Savio, Yan Couto and Eric Garcia. They’ve been replaced, but it’s far from certain that Michel Sanchez’s new squad will be able to produce the same results as the one he had last season.
In Couto’s case, he returned to Manchester City – although he hasn’t remained at the reigning Premier League champions. Over the last few weeks, Borussia Dortmund have been pushing hard to sign him, and on Saturday morning, they finally confirmed his arrival. Couto joins on a loan deal, with an obligation to buy for a total package of €30m.
Bem-vindo, Yan Couto! 👋

Girona were unable to re-sign Couto because of UEFA rules (their shared ownership with Man City prevents any deals taking place this summer because both clubs are in the 2024-25 Champions League). Their chances of picking up again in the future appear to be slim because of this Dortmund move.
