Barcelona at risk of losing 10% sell-on clause for 21-year-old midfielder wanted by Sevilla

Since leaving Barcelona for RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021, it’s safe to say that things have not gone Ilaix Moriba’s way. He’s struggled for prominence at the Bundesliga side, and he’s also failed to impress during loan spells at Valencia and Getafe. However, he could have another chance to revitalise his career.

That’s because Sevilla are interested in signing him, as reported by El Correo de Andalucia (via Sport). Los Nervionenses desperate need midfielders going into next season, and new head coach Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta has set his sights on one of his former players from his time as Barca Atletic manager.

Barcelona retained a 10% sell-on clause as part of the deal that saw Moriba head to Leipzig, and if they were to see a return on that, their final chance could be if the 21-year-old impresses at Sevilla. However, they may not even have the opportunity to cash in, as Moriba is reportedly keen to terminate his contract at Leipzig, thus allowing him to arrive in Andalusia as a free agent.

Reuniting with Garcia Pimienta would be a very good move for Moriba’s career, which has stagnating over the last three years. It remains to be seen whether he does end up at SevillaBarcelona will also be monitoring the situation in hope that he doesn’t terminate his Leipzig contract first.
