Referee’s Committee to consider incorporating successful Euro 2024 rule into La Liga

One of the most talked out rule changes brought in by UEFA for the start of Euro 2024 involved referees. In order to clamp down on officials being berated and crowded, European football’s governing body designated it so that only a team’s captain can approach a referee to question a decision – another other player to do so would be yellow-carded for a display of dissent.

The new law has worked well, so much so that clubs across the continent are considering implementing it in their respective leagues. As reported by Relevo, it could be coming to Spain, with the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) currently studying whether to incorporate it into La Liga.

The Referee’s Committee will meet before the start of the 2024-25 season to discuss numerous topics, one of which will be this new rule. Given how many yellow/red cards have been shown in La Liga over the years for dissent, it could end up being a particularly beneficial introduction in Spain.
