Barcelona believe they can sign priority target for €30m, move likely to be made after Euro 2024

Barcelona are in the market for a new midfielder, and in recent days, they have identified Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino as a priority target. The 27-year-old, who has been offered a renewal by La Real, could be available on a cut-price deal, as his current contract is due to expire at the end of next season.

Merino is considered to be a complete midfielder by Barcelona, and given the circumstances around his current, they believe they can pounce to secure his services.

According to Sport, there is confidence that a deal can be closed for an initial fee of €25m, with €5m added on in variables. Barcelona are likely to make their move after Euro 2024, as Merino will not discuss his future until his involvement with Spain concludes. It also gives time for the Catalans to sort out their finances, as they aim to return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule.

Merino would be a top signing, and he’d fit perfectly into Hansi Flick’s 4-2-3-1 system. Barcelona won’t put off too many better deals if they can sign him for a combined fee of €30m, although it’s too soon to say whether an agreement can be reached with Real Sociedad.

  1. Yeah, cuIo troglodytes should definitely be excited by this “target” going by the inductive logic of signing absolutely zero targets so far.

For you slow (pardon the redundancy) barcelongol♿️ds, this post may or may not contain a dose of sarcasm.
