Real Madrid retain services of key coach as summer exit opportunities are turned down

In recent weeks, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding Raul Gonzalez, whose future as manager of Real Madrid Castilla has been far from certain. The 46-year-old club legend has been strong linked with his first move into professional football, with teams in Spain and Germany having shown interest.

However, it is now confirmed that Raul will not be going anywhere, and he will start his sixth season with the subsidiary. Relevo have reported that he will stay on at Castilla, while Alvaro Arbeloa will continue in his role as head coach of Real Madrid’s U19 side.

Raul is very highly regarded from within Los Blancos, and his position at Castilla is valued. However, they were willing to step aside from him if he wanted a new challenge, although he has opted not to move on, meaning that he will stay put for at least another 12 months.

The first team manager’s position at Real Madrid could be up for grabs by then, and Raul is one of many that dreams of succeeding Carlo Ancelotti. That could be one of the reasons behind staying, although it’s worth noting that the general consensus is that Xabi Alonso would replace the Italian is he were to leave.
