Agent perplexed by Xavi Hernandez’s stance on Barcelona starlet – “He wanted him even sooner”

One of the reported reasons that Xavi Hernandez’s reign as Barcelona manager ended prematurely was his treatment of Vitor Roque, who struggled massively for playing time in his first four months in Catalonia.

Roque was a big investment made by Barcelona, but Xavi appeared uninterested in giving him opportunities. This surprised many, perhaps none more so than Andre Cury, Roque’s agent – he told Radio MARCA (via Relevo) that the 44-year-old was pushing for Roque’s arrival as early as possible.

“It’s not true that Xavi wanted the player to arrive in December. He actually wanted him even sooner – last July, but he couldn’t come. I insist, Xavi called him personally.”

With Xavi gone, and Hansi Flick now installed as Barcelona manager, Cury believes that Roque will be given a fresh opportunity to establish himself at the Catalan giants.

“Vitor Roque expected more minutes with Xavi. In front of him is a world-class player like Lewandowski. Now, with the new coach, he’s starting from scratch.”
