Hansi Flick to make final decision on Barcelona selling central defender

In the coming weeks, Barcelona will need to make some tough decisions in the squad planning for next season. The club’s ongoing financial woes makes it essential for a significant number of players to be moved on, and perhaps unsurprisingly, one area that will be affected is in central defence.

Currently, Barcelona have a vast amount of centre-backs. Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Pau Cubarsi and Andreas Christensen look certain to stay, which will create doubts for Inigo Martinez and the returning Eric Garcia.

According to Marca, Flick must choose between Martinez and Garcia for next season’s squad – one will be kept, the other will be sold.

It’s worth noting that Martinez is not currently registered as a Barcelona player next season, as his contract – signed last summer – was only nailed down with La Liga for the 2023-24 campaign. Equally, Garcia would surely generate more money, and he is attracting interest from Girona, whom he was on loan with last season.
