“I was…” – Barcelona target hints at leaving current club this summer

With Hansi Flick now officially instilled as Barcelona’s new manager, work can begin on identifying targets for the upcoming summer transfer window. One player who had been heavily linked with the Catalan giants before Flick’s arrival was Guido Rodriguez, who would be a solid addition to the first team’s pivot options.

Rodriguez sees his contract at Real Betis expire at the end of next month, and despite strong efforts from the Andalusians to convince him to stay on, it looks increasingly likely that he will be going. He all-but confirmed this during a recent interview while on international duty with Argentina, as per Diario AS.

“A lot of things were talked about and I also didn’t want to talk about Betis out of respect for Betis. I was very happy there at Betis. Now I’m coming to Argentina and I’m thinking about that, about the family and the national team. We’ll see what happens in the future.”

Rodriguez had been very close to joining Barcelona with Xavi Hernandez at the helm, although the deal is likely to be re-assessed by Flick in the coming days/weeks. It remains to be seen whether he ends up in Catalonia over the summer.
