Barcelona to move for Liverpool star or Spain international this summer as marquee signing

Barcelona are on the verge of appointing Hansi Flick as their new manager to replace Xavi Hernandez, and with sales likely on the horizon, it’s not an easy situation to come into. However Barcelona will still try to give him a marquee signing this summer.

Despite multiple reports that Barcelona will have to sell in order to make additions, according to Jose Alvarez of El Chiringuito, the Blaugrana will try to move for one of Nico Williams or Luis Diaz this summer. The former has a release clause close to €60m, and an array of pretenders too, but was said to be Xavi Hernandez’s favourite to strengthen the left wing position.

The other alternative mentioned is Liverpool winger Luis Diaz. The Colombian has had a less than stellar season, and was on Barcelona’s radar before his move to Anfield. He is also reportedly a favourite of Sporting Director Deco. He and Barcelona want to make a splash in the market.

Diaz moved for €50m from Porto in January of 2022, and still has three years left on his deal, leaving Liverpool with the upper hand if Barcelona do go after him. If Barcelona were to move for Diaz, which as things stand is impossible for them to register him, then they will no doubt have to make sacrifices elsewhere on the pitch. Off it, they would likely struggle to compete with other offers that Diaz might attract.
