Newcastle United register interest in second standout La Liga goalkeeper

At the start of the 2023-24 season, Filip Jorgensen made the step up from Villarreal B to the first team, where he was instilled as the permanent first-choice goalkeeper, ahead of veteran stopper Pepe Reina. In his first season in top-level football, he has thrived, and was a standout among ‘keepers in La Liga.

Despite only being 22, Jorgensen looked unfazed by the pressures of La Liga, and he was one of Villarreal’s better performers throughout the campaign. Unfortunately for the Yellow Submarine, his displays have not gone unnoticed.

According to Relevo, Chelsea and Wolves have enquired about the availability of Jorgensen, while Newcastle United have also registered their interest – he’s the second La Liga stopper that the Magpies have looked at, after Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Villarreal are in no rush to sell Jorgensen, who has a €40m release clause. However, the report states that Newcastle believe they can do a deal for half that amount, which would be an absolute steal for one of the best young ‘keepers in Europe. The situation will certainly be one to keep an eye on.
