Hansi Flick has reservations about Barcelona transfer target

Hansi Flick will have a big job on his hands when he officially takes over as Barcelona head coach, and one area that he needs to get right – along with sporting director Deco – is transfers. When taking into account the club’s ailing financial situation, it is essential that the right moves are made, and that there are no doubts.

Barcelona will need to address the situations of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo in the coming weeks. Both players will return to their parent clubs, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City respectively, after Euro 2024, and it’s far from certain that he will end up in Catalonia for a second successive season.

Felix is not expected to stay, but Cancelo’s case is less simple. As per Sport, Barcelona are expected to explore a second loan deal with Man City, but Flick is not fully convinced by the idea of the Portuguese full-back re-signing, as he is concerned about his defensive capabilities, which have been exposed on numerous occasions in recent months.

If Xavi had stayed, Barcelona would have committed to re-signing Cancelo, but with Flick now at the helm, the situation is much more unclear. It remains to be seen how they approach it during the transfer window.

  1. I wouldn’t keep cancelo, too risky in defense and also not very often successful in contributing in offense, too high wages, why not count on Balde?
