Fabrizio Romano plays down reports linking Barcelona with Bayern Munich heavyweight

Since it’s become increasingly known that Hansi Flick will be Barcelona’s next manager, one of the stories that has picked up traction has involved a possible summer move for Joshua Kimmich, who was a pupil of the German coach during his very successful tenure at Bayern Munich.

Barcelona had already been linked with Kimmich over the last few months, but with Flick arriving, it has seemed that their interest has risen. However, Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on the links for the time being, as he reported in The Daily Briefing.

“With Hansi Flick appointed as Barcelona manager, we’re seeing Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich linked with Barca. However, Deco and Flick haven’t discussed targets yet. It will be in the next weeks. Kimmich for sure is appreciated by Flick, he knows him well, but before discussing targets Barca need to fully understand about their Financial Fair Play situation for this summer.”

Kimmich would certainly suit Flick’s style of play, and given that his contract at Bayern ends next summer, he could be available for a reduced fee during the transfer window. For now at least, Barcelona’s interest is nothing more than that.
