Carlo Ancelotti insists Real Madrid veteran could still remain at club -‘He’s not decided yet’

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that Nacho Fernandez could still stay at the club beyond the end of the season, amid speculation over his future. The 34-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and has been heavily linked with an exit.

The latest is that Inter Miami could be a potential destination for Nacho, and there is little doubt that Major League Soccer is his preferred option. Ancelotti said there was still a chance he stays though.

“He hasn’t decided yet, we are waiting, but we are in no hurry. After the season he will be able to choose what he wants to do next season. Now his idea is to try to win the 15th.”

Earlier in the week it was reported that Castilla midfielder Mario Martin was intending on fighting for his place in the first team next year, with the departure of Toni Kroos on the horizon. The Italian manager saw no obstacles.

“He is progressing very well, he can be in the squad without a problem, he has quality and a good attitude. He, like other youth players, can think of a future in which he will be in the first team.”

Competition for places is likely to be fierce though, with Jude Bellingham potentially playing deeper next season. Martin is also to Davide Ancelotti’s liking, as per recent reports. If Nacho does indeed leave at the end of the season, then it is believed that Rafa Martin, currently on loan at Alaves, will take his place in the side.
