On Tuesday, Toni Kroos announced that he would be retiring from football at the end of this summer’s European Championship, which he will be playing at home with Germany. As such, the 34-year-old will playing his final match for Real Madrid in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.
Tributes have poured in for Kroos, including from teammate Lucas Vazquez, who issued a heartfelt message on Instagram.
“How much you have devastated me. One of the greatest privileges I’ve had in my career was playing with you. How much time we spent and how much we achieved. You are a Real Madrid legend, my friend. I wish you all the best. I’m going to miss you so much.”
On X, Lucas was a little less nice, as he sent a hilarious X-rated message to his soon-to-be former Real Madrid teammate.

It’s clear to see how popular Kroos is at Real Madrid, and his departure is a big blow for next season. All parties will hope that they can end their relationship on a high with a 15th title in the Champions League/European Cup.
