Date set for showdown meeting that will determine Xavi Hernandez’s future as Barcelona manager

Speculation over Xavi Hernandez’s future as Barcelona head coach has been rife in recent days, and there should be more clarity in the coming weeks when the 44-year-old meets with president Joan Laporta.

A meeting is scheduled to take place between the pair, which MD say will happen on Monday. Laporta’s stance is clear – he wants to sack Xavi after the recent comments on Barcelona’s financial situation. However, no action will be taken until these showdown talks are held early next week.

Only a few weeks ago, Xavi was convinced to stay on as Barcelona manager by Laporta, but now the situation has become increasingly untenable, which could see the two parties separate one year ahead of schedule.

For now, Xavi’s full focus is on securing Barcelona in second place with a victory over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. However, there’s a very strong chance that it is his final match in charge of the Catalan giants.
