La Liga round-up: Real Sociedad back into top six, Las Palmas and Real Betis play out entertaining draw

MD36 of the 2023-24 La Liga season concluded on Thursday, with three more matches played across Spain. Barcelona took a trip to Almeria, with the other matches seeing Real Sociedad host Valencia, and Las Palmas facing off against Real Betis.

Real Sociedad 1-0 Valencia

Real Sociedad are back into the top six with a solid victory over Valencia at Reale Arena. It was an early goal from Andre Silva that set Imanol Alguacil’s side on their way, and that was enough for the three points, which means that they control their destiny in the race for Europa League qualification. The result also means that Valencia’s hopes of playing in Europe next season have officially been ended.

Las Palmas 2-2 Real Betis

The early kick-off saw a very entertaining draw play out between Las Palmas and Real Betis. The visitors twice lead courtesy of Mika Marmol (OG) and Ayoze Perez, but goals from Alex Suarez and Alberto Moleiro ensured a share of the spoils.

With La Real’s result, Betis have now dropped to seventh, while a point for Las Palmas should be enough for them to secure their place in La Liga for next season.

  1. Betis is back to being Betis, monque pierda! Lack of effort, poor passing and ball control, they are going nowhere fast. Que lastima.
