Talks ongoing to award Ballon d’Or to deserving Barcelona star

Back in 2020, there was outrage when France Football opted to scrap that year’s Ballon d’Or award. The expectation was that Robert Lewandowski – then of Bayern Munich – would be given the honour after an incredible 12 months with the Bundesliga giants, but in the end, it wasn’t to be.

However, that could be about to change, as Sport have reported that France Football are evaluating whether to hand out the 2020 Ballon d’Or to Lewandowski. The Polish striker was the overwhelming favourite to win the award after 55 goals in 47 matches for Bayern in the 2019-20 season, which also included a historic treble of Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Champions League.

For now, talks are ongoing, and the report states that there are several factors that need to be considered before a conclusion is reached. He’d become the latest Barcelona player to have won the award, and it would be richly deserved if France Football decide to give it out.
