Matteo Moretto Transfer Column: Xavi Simons, Artem Dovbyk, Alexander Sorloth and Florian Wirtz

Matteo Moretto gives Football España exclusive information on the latest deals dominating the papers in Spain, as revealed in Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing.

Will Barcelona attempt to bring back Xavi Simons from PSG this summer?

Xavi Simons will not continue at PSG next year. He will return from his loan, but PSG will have to find a solution for him, either a transfer or a loan deal. It is true that Barcelona like him a lot, they like his qualities, and Barcelona are considering moving for him on a loan deal only.

For Xavi, the player, Barcelona is obviously his home, where he grew up and came through the system at La Masia. I don’t think Simons’ future will impact what happens to Joao Felix in the summer. However it would potentially impact on any move for Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, or Simons’ teammate at RB Leipzig, Dani Olmo. It is worth pointing out that so far there’s been no concrete conversations with Simons or PSG at this regard.

Real Madrid links to Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Florian Wirtz

Real Madrid have been following the progress of Florian Wirtz for a long time. They have sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old, they have asked for information about him too… But there is nothing more than that so far. Real Madrid always follow the best young players and Florian is among them. In spite of reports that he is their top target for 2025, I wouldn’t go any further than that right now. From his perspective, Wirtz is focused on Leverkusen, and Leverkusen are happy with him.

Villarreal forward outscoring Jude Bellingham to stay this summer

Recently, Villarreal President Fernando Roig declared that they had not received any offers for Alexander Sorloth, who has scored 19 La Liga goals this season. He is one ahead of Jude Bellingham, and one behind Girona’s Artem Dovbyk in the running for the top scorer, in his best season in the top five leagues.

Roig and Villarreal want to keep Alexander Sorloth. I think that – unless a really high offer comes in this summer – he will stay where he is for another year.

Napoli linked with Artem Dovbyk as potential Victor Osimhen replacement

As with Sorloth, Girona want to retain Artem Dovbyk for next season because they want to have a great season next year, based on continuity, and they also want to get results in the Champions League, which means keeping the current squad together. Manager Michel Sanchez has said as much, and they will try to do so, for their first campaign in Europe. As of today, I am not aware of any offers for him, nor do I have news of a possible exit for Dovbyk, especially to Napoli.

Matteo Moretto will be back with more transfer news in the coming days, providing exclusive information on the biggest stories in Spain and Italy.
