Earlier this week, it was reported from England that Newcastle United are monitoring Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, ahead of a possible move during the summer transfer window. The Georgian international is having another fine campaign with Los Che, although he could be in line for a new adventure from next season.
Relevo have since confirmed Newcastle have scouted Mamardashvili on no less than five occasions throughout this season. Currently, they are best-placed to secure his signature, which they believe would come at a minimum cost of €35m.
According to the report, Mamardashvili is attracted to be prospect of joining Newcastle in the summer, with three positives having been identified. The 23-year-old prioritises a move to the Premier League, and he has also been promised that he would be first-choice goalkeeper at St James’ Park, ahead of current number one Nick Pope. Thirdly, he sees Newcastle as having a great project for regular European football.
It’s unlikely that a deal will be pursued by Newcastle until they understand their FFP situation, but for now, they are leading the race for Mamardashvili. Valencia could be resigned to finally losing him.
