Barcelona managerial target “focused on finding a club abroad”

Barcelona are still deciding who they want as their next manager, with Xavi Hernandez – at this stage – on course to step down at the end of the season. Recent reports have suggested that Rafa Marquez is the favourite, which is a big blow for Hansi Flick, who has been in the running over the last few months.

Flick has been out of work since leaving Germany after the 2022 World Cup, and reports have suggested that he is very keen to manage in Catalonia. This appeared to have been confirmed by Lotthar Mathaus, who has commented that Flick isn’t interested in the soon-to-be vacant manager’s position at Bayern Munich, as per MD.

“I would trust him (at Bayern) because I know he’s an excellent coach and an excellent person, but he doesn’t want to coach in the Bundesliga again. As far as I know, Hansi Flick will no longer work in the Bundesliga. He’s more focused on finding a club abroad.”

At this stage, it seems unlikely that Barcelona will opt for Flick, with reports suggesting that club bosses are unsure about his lack of knowledge of the inside workings at the Blaugrana. Marquez is still the frontrunner to replace Xavi.
