Barcelona have serious interest in Bundesliga star, plan in place to reach €60m release clause

Earlier this week, Barcelona sporting director Deco held a meeting with the agents and father of RB Leipzig and Spain playmaker Dani Olmo. It was initially thought that another player was discussed, but now it’s been confirmed that the 25-year-old was the subject of that conference.

As revealed by MD, Barcelona’s interest in Olmo is very real. The club notified his agents during this meeting on Wednesday that their intention is to try signing him this summer. Howver, it won’t be easy.

Olmo has a €60m release clause which Leipzig will refer any interested clubs to, but due to their financial woes, Barcelona cannot pay this outright. However, they are planning to open negotiations in the coming months, with the intention of reaching this amount through instalments.

It’s likely that personal terms won’t be an issue because Olmo, who was in the La Masia academy until 2015, is “very interested” in a return to Barcelona in the summer. However, it is still far from straightforward that a deal will be arranged.
