Real Madrid monitoring Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of shock potential move

Real Madrid have been active in the transfer market already ahead of this summer, with moves being made to sign Kylian Mbappe and Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies. However their latest target comes as something of a surprise. Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, like Davies, is out of contract in 2025, and Los Blancos are keeping a close eye on his situation.

According to Relevo, Real Madrid are monitoring Alexander-Arnold in an ‘exhaustive manner’, as they wait to see how negotiations over a new deal with Liverpool unfold. The 25-year-old’s intention’s are unkown, and while Liverpool want to renew him, talks have not moved forward for some time.

There are multiple teams interested in Alexander-Arnold, but Real Madrid are ‘automatically favourites’ for the England defender, who Los Blancos would be happy to recruit either this summer or next. There have been no contacts between Real Madrid and Liverpool, or between the player and Real Madrid, but if he does bring his spell to an end, then Real Madrid may make a move for him.

Current first-choice Dani Carvajal has been in inspired form this season for the most part, but will be 33 in less than a year, and Real Madrid are starting to look for long-term alternatives. There has also been plenty of hype regarding 16-year-old right-back Jesus Fortea, who some regard to be the most talented in the Real Madrid academy, but they may well feel it is too soon to look at him as a first-team option within the next two years or so, when in all likelihood Carvajal’s successor will be required.
