Barcelona have four-man shortlist for pivot role this summer – report

Barcelona will look for a deep-lying midfielder this summer in order to address the gaping hole left by Sergio Busquets which is still being felt in Can Barca. Danish central defender Andreas Christensen has been called on in recent weeks in order to held stem the flow of chances being conceded, but it very much looks like a temporary solution.

It will come down to Sporting Director Deco to find an affordable yet quality option for the position. As has been reported previously, Everton’s Amadou Onana is the preferred choice for the Blaugrana, while Sport say that Feyenoord’s Mats Wieffer, Aleix Garcia of Girona and Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich, who is open to leaving the Bundesliga this summer, are the other alternatives being considered.

Despite this report, as per Matteo Moretto, the Blaugrana are not currently focused on Wieffer, who looks to be closer to a move to Atletico Madrid. Their preferred profile is someone more similar to Onana. Garcia looks to be perhaps the most affordable, but also the least orthodox option there, having only begun playing the position this year, and as part of a double pivot. Kimmich, like Onana, looks to be a tricky operation financially for Barcelona.
