Thibaut Courtois to miss remainder of Real Madrid’s season as knee injury diagnosis is revealed

Thibaut Courtois had been in line to make his return for Real Madrid in the next couple of weeks, having recently entered the final stages of recovery. The Belgian goalkeeper tore his ACL back in August, and has missed the entire season so far, but there had been hope that he would play some part in the run-in.

However, that has now been evaporated. Courtois left Tuesday’s training in tears after suffering a knee injury – the opposite knee to which he tore his ACL – and Real Madrid have now confirmed that he has suffered a torn internal meniscus.

Diario AS say that Courtois will be out for 6-7 weeks at a minimum, meaning that his season is effectively at an end. He was not expected to go with Belgium to the European Championships anyway, but now it’s even more unlikely that he will be heading to Germany.

Losing Courtois again is a major blow for Real Madrid, and they will hope that he can be fit for the start of next season. The silver lining is that Andriy Lunin is having a fantastic campaign, so he will remain as number one until the summer at least.
