Real Madrid submit official complaint against referee over offensive Vinicius Junior chants

Real Madrid have submitted an official complaint to the Competition Committee at the RFEF, claiming that referee Juan Martinez Munuera was deliberately negligent with his report regarding this weekend’s clash between Los Blancos and Osasuna. The specific incident being referred to is the lack of reference to chants regarding Vinicius Junior.

During the clash at El Sadar, ‘Vinicius, die’ chants could be heard from the local fans, and yet did not appear in Munuera’s post-match report. This is despite Dani Carvajal seemingly pointing out the singing to Munuera.

Real Madrid have claimed that chants mentioned above were racially motivated, adding it to their legal complaint regarding incidents at Montjuic and the Metropolitano last week, when Vinicius was racially abused. In addition, they have reported the incident to the Competition Committee regarding the chants, as well as Munuera’s alleged negligence.

The insults have already been reported to the Competition Committee, as per Diario AS. Clearly Munuera did not feel that the chants were racist in nature, otherwise it would have fallen on him to report them, were they discriminatory. If that is the case, then the RFEF match delegate and TV director were those responsible to report the insults, which they have done so.

Full statement from Real Madrid:

Following the serious insults aimed once again at our player Vinicius Junior, this time during our team’s last league game at El Sadar, Real Madrid C. F. wishes to communicate the following:

-Our club has filed a complaint with the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee regarding the match referee Juan Martínez Munuera, owing to the negligent drafting of the refereeing report. The official omitted, in voluntary and deliberate fashion, the insults and humiliating chants directed towards our player on a repeated basis, despite his attention being drawn to them continually by our players as they were happening.

-Furthermore, Real Madrid has filed a complaint with the same Federative body in relation to the cited insults and humiliating chants, and has reported them to the State Commission Against Violence and Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport, in order for those responsible to be identified and sanctioned.

-In light of these unacceptable events at El Sadar, Real Madrid has added to the complaint filed before the General State Prosecutor on Friday the 15th of March regarding hate and discrimination offences pertaining to the racist and hateful abuse aimed at our player Vinicius Junior in the areas surrounding the Montjuic Olympic Stadium and the Metropolitano Stadium, calling for the perpetrators to be identified.

Real Madrid once again condemns these violent attacks of racism, discrimination and hate and demands that measures finally be taken in order to eradicate the violence to which our player Vinicius Junior has been subjected.
