Granada replace manager with nine games to go as veteran returns for third spell

Granada have made a last desperate attempt to maintain their first division status with their third managerial appointment of the season. On Tuesday Uruguayan coach Alexander Medina was relieved of his duties, with Jose Ramon Sandoval returning to the club.

Medina secured one win and four draws in his 14 games in charge, and Los Nazaries are currently 13 points adrift of safety in 18th spot. With the same figures as Paco Lopez achieved in terms of points, Granada look as if they will be preparing for a promotion push in Segunda again next season.

Sandoval comes back after a spell of nine months in 2015 and 2016 in his first period with Granada, where he secured safety in May when he arrived. The chances of that happening again look slim, but he will have until the end of the season to attempt the miracle. Granada were beaten by Real Mallorca over the weekend, and face fellow strugglers Cadiz in their first game back from the international break.
