Real Madrid remain undecided on future of forward despite improvement

Real Madrid are still undecided on whether they should try to loan out Turkish talent Arda Guler this summer, despite two promising cameos in recent weeks. The staff are reportedly divided on how his development would be best served next season.

Two weekends ago he took his goal against Celta Vigo very well, and almost scored the goal of the season with an audacious long-range effort against Osasuna this past weekend. It should auger well for Guler, now headed off on international duty with Turkey. The Real Madrid staff feel he has reacted well to their tough, after committing indiscrepancies with his nightlife habits, but still the staff are divided on his future.

Real Madrid are reportedly planning on keeping him for next season, as per Relevo, but some of the staff feel he should be loaned out for more game time to continue his development. They point to cases like that of Fede Valverde or Brahim Diaz, who both left on loan and had matured on their return.

Guler, for his part, has always maintained a desire to continue in the Spanish capital, but the stretch until the end of the season could be crucial. Others in the staff are concerned that his strong personality might not fit elsewhere, and would rather he continue on a special fitness programme to build muscle under the watchful eye of Carlo Ancelotti. They point to other loans, like those of Reinier Jesus or Takefusa Kubo, which did not work out, fearing his quality could be diluted.

It’s a problem that has often afflicted talented youngsters at the club, with few being able to make the jump to the first team from Castilla. Even a prodigy like Guler is struggling for minutes, and there is no natural avenue for more growth, other than simply outperforming the stars like Brahim Diaz or Rodrygo Goes, in the 19-year-old’s case.
