“No chance” – Deco pours cold water on possibility of Xavi Hernandez reversing Barcelona exit decision

Despite the fact that Xavi Hernandez announced last month that he would be stepping down as head coach of Barcelona at the end of the season, speculation has remained that he could be tempted to reverse his decision, and instead stay on for another 12 months – which is when his contract is set to expire.

Joan Laporta is especially keen to see Xavi stay on, but for now at least, it’s not happening. This is according to Sporting Director Deco, who is leading the search for Xavi’s successor – he discussed the matter during an interview with Catalunya Radio (via MD).

“If something changes, I won’t say we can’t raise it. We have nothing against Xavi. It’s not a decision made by the club or the sporting management. At the moment, there is no chance. But if it happens, we’ll discuss it.”

Deco certainly leaves the door open for Xavi to continue his time at Barcelona, but it would be a major surprise if he does reverse his decision. The 44-year-old has spoken openly about his unenjoyment this season, so unless he drastically changes his view, he isn’t going to stay on.
