Liverpool still interested in La Liga forward after he tells them he won’t make winter move

Real Sociedad and Japan star Takefusa Kubo is shaping up to be one of the hottest commodities on the transfer market this summer, given he will not be moving during the January transfer window. Kubo has told two clubs that he is going nowhere in January, which will be music to Imanol Alguacil’s ears.

The 22-year-old has rejected offers from Saudi Arabia on two occasions, according to Relevo, despite Al-Nassr offering him in excess of €20m per season to head to the Middle East. He will not be going anywhere this winter, and is unlikely to go to Saudi Arabia at all.

There are likely to be more options in the summer though, when Kubo may consider a move. Various Premier League clubs are following Kubo, as are Napoli who showed interest last summer, but the side most interested are Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are keen to strengthen their frontline, and contacted Kubo’s agents before the January transfer window, but were told he was staying at La Real until at least the summer. Liverpool are still interested though, and could come back in with an offer later in the year.

Kubo will likely cost any suitor who wants him €60m. That is his release clause, and given Real Madrid will make 50% of the money from his sale due to a clause in his contract, the Txuri-Urdin have little reason to accept less. Kubo has 6 goals and 4 assists this season in 25 appearances, but has been a key part of Alguacil’s frontline, often providing the creative spark for a side that topped their Champions League group.
