Athletic Club rarely delve into the market, and still less so in the January transfer window, but have moved to sign Osasuna defender Adama Boiro.
Boiro, 21, has been in the Osasuna ranks for some time coming through the academy, and has been playing for their B side Osasuna Promesas this season. A regular starter, playing 19 of their 20 games and starting 18 of them, Boiro has been impressive for them this season according to MD.
Los Leones have moved quickly to snap up Boiro, who has given five assists in the third tier in Spain this season, paying his €2m release clause to take him to Bilbao. He has signed a five-year deal with Athletic, keeping him there until 2029.
Boiro could well be part of a conscious need to eventually replace Yuri Berchiche on the left side of their defence. Yuri is still a quality option for Ernesto Valverde, but has been increasingly struggling with injuries and is now 33. Inigo Lekue has often filled in this season, but 23-year-old Imanol Garcia de Albeniz is their only other natural option there.
