Lionel Messi unsuccessful in attempt to persuade ex-Manchester United defender to Inter Miami

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has been busy in recruitment since joining Inter Miami, but for the first time has been unsuccessful in his efforts to get one of his ex-colleagues to join him.

After becoming a free agent this summer, Messi signed on the dotted line with Inter Miami, turning down approaches from Saudi Arabia and Barcelona. Not long after, former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba followed him through the door.

Just six months down the line, and another of the 2015 Champions League-winning Barcelona side, as well as being one of Messi’s best friends, Luis Suarez signed for Inter Miami. According to TyC Sports, Messi’s latest desired recruit was ex-Argentina colleague Marcos Rojo. However the former Manchester United defender has decided against acting on that interest, electing to remain at Boca Juniors, say the Argentine outlet (via MD).

A number of former Barcelona players have been linked with Major League Soccer switches, and Sergi Roberto has also noted his desire to play in the United States, albeit he appears to be more keen on New York. On the other hand, Antoine Griezmann has also been public about his preference to finish his career in the USA, although it seems unlikely he would play with Messi and Suarez again.
