Villarreal and Marcelino handed major boost as key player agrees new two-year contract

Villarreal have struggled massively so far this season. They have already parted ways with two managers (Quique Setien and Pacheta), with Marcelino Garcia Toral now back in charge of the club he was at the helm of between 2013 and 2016.

Things are looking up for Villarreal since the appointment of Marcelino. They won their first La Liga match under his stewardship at the weekend, following a 3-1 victory over Osasuna. The good news keeps coming for the Yellow Submarine too, as they will now retain the services of one of their key players for the next two seasons.

As per Relevo, Dani Parejo has signed a two-year extension at Villarreal, meaning that he will remain at the club until the end of the 2025-26 season. His current deal was due to expire next summer, but he has now committed his future to the Castellon-based side.

Parejo, who was linked with Barcelona during the summer, has agreed to reduce his salary as part of the arrangement, which is good news for Villarreal as they will now have more space in their wage bill for new signings, which will be needed given their poor start to the season.
