For the past few years, Barcelona have been dealing with crippling financial issues. So far, they have navigated these fairly well, but the situation still remains very bleak. This will be the case for some time yet.
It means that Barcelona will find it very difficult to do business in the upcoming transfer window. Sport say that head coach Xavi Hernandez has been notified of this, and he has specifically been told that only one player, if any, will arrive at the club during January.
That player is Vitor Roque, who signed for Barcelona during the summer, but has had to spend the remainder of 2023 at Athletico Paranaense because he could not be registered before the start of the season. Club officials are determined to bring Roque in during January, but at this stage, this is far from certain.
Barcelona can only sign further players in the event of a sale, but even then, they would not be able to spend all of the funds received. Unfortunately for the Catalans, this will remain the case for a fair while yet.
