Atletico Madrid have been on tremendous form so far in 2023. Having had an outstanding second half of last season, they have continued this into the current campaign, where they sit in fourth place in the La Liga table after winning seven of their opening nine matches.
Atletico have won their last five La Liga matches, a run that they will hope to extend when they face Alaves at the Civitas Metropolitano on Sunday evening. A win would move them above Barcelona, and to within just three points of Real Madrid and Girona at the top of the table, and with a game in hand too.
Atletico’s home form in 2023 has been particularly impressive. They have won their last 14 matches at the Metropolitano, and if they make that 15 against Alaves, Simeone’s men would break the club record for consecutive victories at home, which was set earlier in the Argentine’s reign.
It’s safe to say that Atletico Madrid look to be in the race for the La Liga title this season, and three points against Alaves would certainly amplify that.
