Villarreal manager Pacheta is already under sufficient pressure after a less than impressive start to his reign, but has sent Yellow Submarine fans into a frenzy after his latest statements on the team.
The Yellow Submarine have two wins, three draws and three defeats from Pacheta’s opening eight games, and have not looked good in the majority of them. During that time, Rayo Vallecano and Girona are the only La Liga sides he has faced in the top half, leaving them with just two wins La Liga through ten games.
Pacheta told Diario AS that fans and players should not get nervous about the situation though, as it will only lead to more mistakes, reminding both in the process that it is early in the season.
One particular statement made ears prick up though, after their 1-1 draw against Alaves.
“Of course I am worried about how we are because the feelings are not good. The grades are at the end of May. At this point, the feeling is much more important.”
“Here we are still looking for a model that works and we won’t find it by running more. We have played in all ways and we are going to continue looking for it. We cannot be accused of standing still. It worries me because the sensations are not good. I always talk about this because they have always responded positively to me if I saw something positive.”
“You have to look for those good feelings, but you have to remove that excessive burden of responsibility. We are on matchday ten, with nine points, but we are going to work like animals and concentrate. We all have to work a little harder so that we can win and feel comfortable. Now we are few brave people. In the end, we have gone more from the heart and we have had good actions, but we must do them with more discretion. We cannot do what we do well five times, but 25 times, because that brings us closer to victory.”
Essentially what Pacheta is asking for is more composure, and for players to use their heads rather than their hearts. However, the admission that he has not found a style of play that suits the side has not gone down well with local fans, who are used managers with a strong conviction of how they want to play. Pacheta can perhaps be accused of being too honest.
