With new Sporting Director Deco now instilled, Barcelona are expected to shift their focus towards signing younger players. These will be for the first team as well as the younger categories, and Pedro Soma is someone that could be a valuable addition to the latter from next season.
The 17-year-old midfielder currently plays for First Federation side Cornella, although he may not be there in 12 months’ time. Relevo say that Barcelona are just one of the teams interested in signing Soma, with a number of “important clubs” from across Europe and the MLS keeping tabs on him.
Soma made his first team debut for Cornella this season and has impressed, with onlookers describing him as having a similar playstyle to Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos – certainly a flattering comparison.
Soma is able to sign a professional contract when he turns 18 next summer, but whether Cornella can hold on to him remains to be seen. Barcelona will hope that they can swoop in the sign the American teenager, although they will likely have competition.
