Barcelona to be without breakthrough star for four weeks following international call-up

The U17 World Cup begins next month in Indonesia, and Spain will fancy their chances of taking home another international tournament in 2023, following the women’s senior team’s World Cup victory and the men’s senior team’s success in the UEFA Nations League.

Spain have announced their squad for the competition, which gets underway on the 10th of November. Among the list are eight Barcelona players, with the leading name being Marc Guiu, who scored on his first team debut on Sunday during the 1-0 victory over Athletic Club.

It means that Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez will be unable to rely on the services of Guiu for the four-week period that the U17 World Cup takes place, providing that Spain make it far into the tournament. The Catalans will have to hope that their injured attackers, and especially Robert Lewandowski, are back fit by the start of next month.

The other Barcelona players that will make the trip are Pau Prim, Hector Fort, Pau Cubarsi, Andres Cuenca, Marc Bernal, Quim Junyent and Juan Hernandez. The eight-strong list is certainly a testament to the effectiveness of La Masia.
